This sermon was basically in two parts. First, the introduction is a discussion of “Easter Eggs including some in Matthew. The second part was a discussion of Gods plan for salvation as presented in Matthew. Of course, the second part of the sermon is the more important aspect of the teaching in Matthew. Central to Gods plan for us (to hear, believe, repent, confess, be baptized for the remission of sins, and to live faithfully) is that we should believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that we should confess our belief to others.
Matthew 16:16-19 (ESV) Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
